Physical Education

At St Peter’s, we recognise physical education as a vital part of our students’ overall development. Our dynamic PE program fosters health, confidence, and teamwork through a range of fun, inclusive, and engaging activities. From team sports to individual fitness, we encourage every student to stay active, develop lifelong healthy habits, and experience the joy of movement.

In addition to the scheduled 60-minute Physical Education lesson, students participate in weekly class sport. Our students remain active throughout the day, also, with regular ‘brain breaks’ and movement, keeping their minds fresh and ready to learn.

Foundation students participate in the Perceptual Motor Program (PMP), a structured movement-based program designed to help children develop essential physical and cognitive skills by integrating motor skills with sensory (perceptual) input to support learning readiness and improve coordination, balance, and spatial awareness.

Year 3 & 4 students prepare for Senior school Interschool Sports through the annual Cricket Gala Day in Term 4, playing in a round robin style cricket tournament against other schools from the Oakleigh District.

Year 5 & 6 students participate in Interschool Sports and Gala Day, playing friendly games of Basketball, Cricket, Softball, Netball, Soccer or Volleystars against local schools in the Oakleigh District.

All students from Foundation to Year 6 take part in an annual intensive swimming program. Students also have the opportunity to represent the school in a variety of Oakleigh District sporting events, including Swimming, Cross Country, Athletics, and Hot Shots Tennis. Successful participants can progress through to Division, Regional, and State levels as part of the School Sport Victoria (SSV) pathway.
